This website serves as a career development resource for student assistants and PhD candidates at ZIM. It offers an overview of the structure of an academic career: while it aims to cover a broad range of contexts, the main focus is on Digital Humanities and Austria.
There are five main sections in the website, which you can navigate independently:
- Academic Careers: this section offers an overview of academic careers in different countries, highlighting some of the main processes, challenges, and requirements. It then focuses on Austria, and on the University of Graz.
- PhD: this section focuses on the pro and cons of choosing to do a PhD, and the practicalities to consider when applying.
- Postdoc: this section focuses on the possibilities and challenges in the postdoctoral stage.
- DH Careers (traditional and alternative academic paths, and outside of the university): this section focuses on resources for developing a career in DH, and explores some of the common challenges in looking for jobs (inside and outside academia), and networks and journals in the sector.
- Academic Life: this section includes information on navigating life in academia, with attention to managing mental health, the situation of women in academia, writing, and other resources.
